Research Fellow Paulette Regan has been shortlisted for The Canadian Federation for the Humanities and Social Sciences’ (CFHSS) Canada Prize in Social Sciences for her book Unsettling the Settler Within: Indian Residential Schools, Truth-telling and Reconciliation in Canada.

As Stephen Harper goes courting in China this week, several sinologists are offering a sobering analysis of the Canada-China relationship.
Liu Institute Professor, Paul Evans, argues China has been a challenge for Conservatives who came to power in 2006 with “little experience in foreign affairs [and] an ideological antipathy for China.”
The Harper crowd realized in 2007 their approach was a failure, Evans says, and reversed gears in 2009 with Harper’s first trip to China. He says Harper may be set on re-engaging with China but he has yet to explain, beyond economics, what’s behind Canada’s sudden interest.
