Communicating with Canadians: A Canadian Forces Perspective
Nov

2010
November 03, 2010 1:30 PM
Please join us for this panel discussion by three distinguished Canadian Forces panellists with a wealth of communication and public affairs experience. Each panellist will provide a short talk and then the floor is opened to the audience for a Q&A session.

Do you want to know about specific CF operations? Learn about how the CF communicates with the public? Want to find out what the embedded journalists program is about and what challenges both sides face? These and other great questions, as posed by session attendees, are sure to provide a lively and honest discussion, leading to increased knowledge and understanding of communication within the Canadian Forces.

Panellists:

Lieutenant-Colonel Marc Theriault joined the Army Reserve in 1985, and is now Director of Army Public Affairs. He is currently seconded to the Privy Council office as a senior communications analyst. LCol Thériault was sent to Haiti in January 2010, in the aftermath of a devastating earthquake, as the senior Task Force spokesperson and communications advisor.

Lieutenant-Commander Kris Phillips joined the Canadian Forces in 1990 and is now Senior Public Affairs Officer at the National Defence Public Affairs Office – Pacific Region. LCdr Phillips has served in various Public Affairs capacities overseas in locals such as Bosnia-Herzegovina; Western Europe; the Persian Gulf Region; Kabul and Kandahar, Afghanistan; the US Gulf Coast; the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans; and Haiti.

Captain Cynthia Larue Joined the Army Reserve in 2005 as a Public Affairs Officer. Earlier this year, Captain Larue completed an 8-month overseas deployment in Afghanistan where she served as the Kandahar Provincial Reconstruction Team Public Affairs Officer.
